SR&ED

Presentations and Information Sessions

Prior to an engagement, Empyrean will provide you and your personnel with a detailed overview of the SR&ED program and its benefits. We will answer your questions about project eligibility, allowable costs and documentation.

Technical Review to Identify Projects

Empyrean will conduct a Technical Review to identify all potentially eligible projects and activities. This will involve a detailed examination of your products and processes.

Risk Assessment

The projects identified during the Technical Review are ranked in terms of risk and likelihood of success so that our clients can make the most informed decision about proceeding with a claim.

On-Site Collection of Technical Information

Working from an approved Project List, Empyrean will send a Technical Advisor to your site to collect technical information by interviewing managers, project leaders and/or technical staff. At this time, we will also review your supporting documentation.

Empyrean believes in minimizing our intrusion into your operation. Interviews are usually quite brief and we never require your staff to write reports themselves.

Preparation of Reports

Using the information collected, Empyrean prepares high-quality, professionally written reports (‘Technical Descriptions’) for each project. Reports go through a multi-stage quality control process to ensure the best possible arguments are put forward for your claims.

Draft reports will be delivered for your review usually within two to four weeks. Empyrean will then prepare the final versions of the reports for inclusion in your tax return.

Assistance in Identifying All Eligible Costs

If requested, Empyrean will also assist you in preparing cost summaries for each project. We will work closely with your internal financial personnel and your accountants.

Support during CRA Audits

Should CRA request an audit, Empyrean will help you prepare. We will also be present at the audit, if requested.
